PNG National Drive -2026🌿🌍

Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) initiated a nationwide campaign from January 1st to March 31st , 2026 aimed to promote the adoption of PNG among households and to expand PNG consumer base across a broader segment of the population. The campaign will be focused on those areas where gas pipeline network has been laid or is planned to be laid in the immediate future.
Purba Bharati Gas Pvt. Ltd. (PBGPL) is taking various initiatives to promote natural gas in households as cooking fuel as well as in transport, commercial and industrial sectors. PBGPL being part of this National PNG Drive will try to ensure supply of natural gas to existing registered customers besides enrolling customers for new PNG connections. This National PNG Drive will help PBGPL to increase the awareness on the use of PNG – a clean, eco-friendly, safe and reliable fuel
CNG is Compressed Natural Gas, a clean fuel for automobiles. CNG improves engine performance and provides a better mileage. Its non-toxic, non-corrosive, non-carcinogenic nature gives engine an extended life and also contributes to a less polluted environment.
PNG Piped Natural Gas fuel for Domestic Households, Industries and Commercial Units. It is supplied to the burners through pipeline and does not require the hassles for booking, handling, storing, transporting and measuring the underweight cylinder.
INAUGURATION OF CITY GATE STATION, BAIHATA

The City Gate Station (CGS) at Baihata in GA-9.03 (Kamrup District) was successfully inaugurated on 14th March 2026 by Hon’ble Minister of Public Health Engineering (PHE), Housing & Urban Affairs, Assam, Shri Jayanta Mallabaruah, in the august presence of Hon’ble MLA Shri Diganta Kalita, along with the PBGPL team.
With this commissioning, the CGD network is now directly connected to the high-pressure transmission network of GAIL (India) Limited through the Barauni–Guwahati Pipeline (BGPL), with gas being received from SV-32. The CGS acts as a critical interface between the transmission and distribution systems, enabling safe pressure regulation and continuous gas flow.
This development allows seamless receipt of natural gas from the source pipeline and its efficient distribution to domestic, commercial, and industrial consumers across Kamrup District, significantly enhancing reliability and operational efficiency of the CGD network.
The commissioning of CGS Baihata marks a key step towards strengthening gas infrastructure and expanding access to clean and sustainable energy solutions in North Guwahati and surrounding regions.

Purba Bharati Gas Pvt. Ltd. (PBGPL) is a joint venture company of Assam Gas Company Ltd. (AGCL), Oil India Ltd. (OIL) and GAIL Gas Ltd. (GAIL Gas) incorporated on 19th November 2019.

The consortium participated in the 9th bidding round of PNGRB and was authorized to implement the City Gas Distribution (CGD) project in Cachar, Hailakandi, Karimganj, Kamrup and Kamrup Metropolitan districts.

The geographical area of Kamrup GA covers 4060 Sq Km and Cachar GA covers 7494.5 Sq Km.

  • CNG as fuel for vehicles
  • Piped Natural Gas for residential, commercial and industrial purposes
  • CNG supply through mobile cascade to industrial and commercial customers
